Ontario Cup #1

It was a beautiful day on Saturday April the 31st. It was pre-ride day at the first Ontario Cup Race of the season. Throughout the day there were many people riding the course which was in great shape. I pre-rode the course at 1:30 with my coach Andrew Watson and we worked on a few key points and got it dialed in. The technical features of the course included rock gardens, drops and rock/log overs, which were challenging but really fun.  At the end of the day I did 3 laps of the course and was feeling ready for race day.
We went and stayed at a relatives place and had a great supper of whole wheat pasta and Alfredo sauce, can't get a better dinner then that before a race.
We got up early on Sunday (Race Day) and headed off to the venue. My mother was racing at 10:00 am so we got her all set up and on the race course, she had a great race. The weather was nothing like the day before, it was raining and only 6 degrees. At 12:30 I got ready and did a warm up to get ready for my 1:30 race start. At the time of my race it had warmed up a bit so the temperature wasn't to bad. I am in the junior expert division so we started right behind the elite men. The race start was fast and the first climb was tough. During the first 2 laps I paced myself since it was a 4 lap race and my coach had a race plan for me. I was very happy with how I rode all of the technical features and with the rain in the morning it helped to make loose sections on the course tack up, which made it way faster. The last two laps I gave it my all and at the end of the race I placed 6th. I was very happy with my performance and I could definitely tell that my training this past winter has made me a better athlete.
I am really looking forward to Ontario Cup #2 at Duntroon, Ontario.

Lauf Forks in Review

Lauf Trail Racer vs Lauf TR Boost Fork For this blog post I am doing a comparison on two mountain bike forks designed and manufactured by Lauf Forks. I am going be reviewing the TR Boost and Trail Racer, they are both great forks and I am going to discuss what the pros and cons are. The first thing that I noticed when I started to ride the TR Boost is that it is one of the stiffest forks that I have ever ridden. Compared to the Trail Racer the Boost fork has better responsiveness in corners and responds to what you want to do immediately. The Trail Racer isn't as stiff laterally as the TR Boost is and you will notice that when you are cornering hard there might be a bit of flex in the Trail Racer compared to none with the TR Boost. The 60mm of travel is the same for both forks so you wont notice any difference with your suspension. Compared to the Lauf Trail Racer which uses a standard 100mm thru axle the Lauf Boost uses a 110mm thru axle. When I received the TR Boost fo

XC Marathon #3

It was the third consecutive weekend of racing and I was at the Northhumberland Forest for XC Marathon #3. The Northhumberland forest marathon has been my favorite race ever since I started racing in the Ontario Marathon series. The trail's are all ways super fast and in great shape. As always the event was very well organized by Dan Marshall of Substance Projects. Today's marathon was 70km in length and I noticed some tough competition on the starting line. It was awesome to be able to chat with friends before the race and on the start line, it definitely helps with race jitters. The race buzzer went off and we all blasted away from the start. It was a bit tight at the start but then everyone got lined out and 4 of us went out and gained a big lead on the rest of the group. About 5km in I had to back off the high pace so I didn't burn myself out. Once I dropped back a bit I got together with another group and we rode the rest of the first lap together. On the second lap I
